The Golden Age of Ancient Kyiv

A walk from the Golden Gates to St. Andrew’s church.

You will see the ancient Golden Gates and the rooftops of Kyiv from the St. Sofia bell tower,  take a stroll in the Volodymyr Hill Park, admire the views of the Dnipro river banks, see the colorful paintings in the Artists’ Alley, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of Andrew’s Descent street.

During this walk you will:
– find out family dynamics and power struggle between the Princes of the Kievan Rus’, Game of Thrones style;
– learn the tragic fate and reconstruction of the St. Michael Cathedral;
– find out why the famous hetman Bohdan was arrested together with his horse;
– learn the story of a kozak who was called “the night emperor”;
– discover the most colorful street in Kyiv where once lived priests, artists, prostitutes, writers and ghosts.

From Saints to Farmers

A walk from St. Volodymyr Cathedral to the Bessarabka Market.

After a visit to the beautiful St. Volodymyr cathedral, you will see the National University and learn the story of the Shevchenko park, visit a secret courtyard and see hidden mosaics, stroll along the Shevchenko boulevard and learn about generous patrons of the past, and visit the famous farmers market for a taste of some Ukrainian specialties.

– find out the story of Bessarabka market and learn about popular Ukrainian dishes.

Beyond the Maidan

A walk from the Maidan to the St. Alexander Cathedral.

Explore the streets and courtyards around the Maidan – the Independence square, and learn their many secrets. You will see some of the most beautiful buildings of the city and learn stories of the people who built them and lived there.  You will discover mystic creatures, whimsical statues and hidden pathways along the way. You will also learn about heroic and tragic events of the Revolution of Dignity and visit the streets where it all happened.

– find out why the city’s main street used to be called the Swamp;
– learn how the King of Contractors advertised his construction company;
– see crocodiles and dragons, gods and demons inhabiting these streets;
– hear fascinating stories of millionaires who lived here and thieves who stole from them;
– have a drink at the Embassy of Drinks and walk by the Embassies of Canada and Australia;
– admire the views of the Dnipro river from the Volodymirska Hirka park.
– finish in a local restaurant.

My name is Lana Lewis. Originally, I am from Kyiv, Ukraine, but I have lived in the US for almost 30 years. Now I am back in my favorite city of all and can’t wait to share its beauty and its story with you. Being the “double agent” now, I can see both sides and relate to what you may want to see and experience in Kyiv. I know what may surprise, delight or shock you here. I will tell you the story of Kyiv and its inhabitants in an easy and fun way. Together, we will explore not only the city’s main sights, but also the lesser known places and hidden treasures. Kyiv has a lot to offer, there is something for everyone, and each individual tour will be created according to your own interests and preferences. Lana has a Masters degree from Kyiv Linguistics University. She worked for 20 plus years as a Luxury Travel Advisor for Virtuoso-affiliated travel agencies in the US, and she’s an ITMI (International Tour Management Institute) certified Guide and Tour Director as well as an active member of the Ukrainian Guide Association.
